Breathe and Be
The Beginning Days of Summer
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
The first days of summer have a tenderness that’s easy to miss when life is loud. We slow everything down and step into an early warm evening where the air smells like cut grass and blooming flowers, porch lights click on one by one, and the world feels unhurried for a change. This guided meditation is designed for relaxation, stress relief, and sleep, with gentle breath cues that help your shoulders drop, your jaw unclench, and your thoughts move a little more slowly.
Have a meditation idea you'd love to hear? I’d be delighted to bring it to life! Feel free to share your thoughts by emailing me at therapy@maryannmsw.com
Welcome And Settle In
SPEAKER_00Hello, and welcome to Breathe and Be. I'm Marianne, and I'm so glad you're here. Tonight we're settling into the beginning days of summer, those early warm evenings when the season still feels fresh and new, when the air carries the scent of cut grass and blooming flowers, when daylight stretches long into the evening, and the world seems to soften just a little.
SPEAKER_01Find a position that feels supportive for your body, and gently allow yourself to arrive here. Take a slow breath in through your nose and let it drift out softly. Again, breathing in and breathing out.
Step Into A Summer Evening
SPEAKER_00Just be here in this moment. Imagine yourself stepping outside just as the evening begins to settle in. The heat of the day is fading, but warmth still lingers in the sidewalks and wooden porches. The sky is painted in soft golds and pale pinks, with streaks of lavender beginning to gather near the horizon. You can hear the distant sounds of summer life all around you. A screen door slamming gently somewhere down the block. Wind chimes clinking faintly from a nearby porch. The sound of sprinklers ticking rhythmically across the nearby yard. Laughter floating through the warm evening air before fading away. The air smells like freshly cut grass, warm dirt, and flowers opening into the evening light. You begin to walk slowly through this early summer evening. Tiny clover flowers dot the grass beneath your feet with their purple ball-shaped blossoms. Fireflies blink softly near the edges of yards and gardens, their tiny lights appearing one by one as dusk deepens. The leaves overhead move gently in the breeze, bright green and full with the newness of the season. You notice how everything feels different these first few days of summer. Not rushed, not heavy, just open. Like the world itself is exhaling after a long season of cold. As you continue walking, you pass gardens overflowing with color, butter yellow daisies, soft purple lilacs still lingering from spring, bright red geraniums and flower pots resting on porch steps. You pause for a moment and simply let yourself take it all in. The warmth in your skin, scent of flowers carried through the air, the distant hum of cicadas beginning their evening song.
Bloom Slowly Without Pressure
SPEAKER_00And maybe you allow yourself to remember that you too are allowed to soften. You do not have to bloom all at once. You do not have to have everything figured out. Nature never rushes itself into fullness. The trees unfold leaf by leaf. Flowers open slowly toward the sun. Even summer arrives gradually, one warm evening at a time.
SPEAKER_01Take another slow breath in.
SPEAKER_00And as you exhale, imagine your shoulders softening just a little bit more. Your jaw unclenching, your hands loosening. You are allowed to rest here in this season. You are allowed to enjoy small moments. The cool grass beneath bare feet, the glow of porch lights turning on one by one, the sound of screen doors opening and closing in the distance. Simple things, steady things. And for now, let yourself simply exist inside this gentle summer evening with nothing expected of you.
SPEAKER_01Just breathing, just being.
SPEAKER_00Porch lights continue to flicker on one by one, like tiny lanterns welcoming the evening in. Some windows are open, and you catch pieces of life drifting outward into the warm air, the sound of dishes clinking softly, quiet conversation, the low hum of a television somewhere in the distance. And instead of feeling separated from the world, you feel gently held within it.
SPEAKER_01A part of it.
Park Stillness Under The Stars
SPEAKER_00You notice how summer evenings seem to stretch time itself. No one appears to be hurrying. The world slows down in these moments. Even the breeze feels unhurried as it moves through the trees.
SPEAKER_01You find yourself approaching a small park.
SPEAKER_00The metal slide still holds warmth from the sun. The swings sway gently back and forth in the breeze with a soft rhythmic creaking. The scent of warm mulch and grass fills the air. Nearby lightning bugs glow brighter now, floating like tiny stars just above the ground. You walk toward a large tree and settle in beneath it, leaning your back gently against the rough bark. Above you, branches sway slowly, leaves whispering together overhead. You look upward through the openings in the canopy where the first real stars are beginning to appear.
SPEAKER_01And for a moment, everything feels suspended. The warmth of the earth beneath you, the steady evening sound surrounding you, the safety of simply sitting still.
SPEAKER_00No pressure to perform, no urgency, no expectation to become anything other than what you are in this moment. You rest your hands in your lap and take a slow breath in, noticing the scent of summer carried on the air, fresh grass, warm pavement cooling after a hot day, flowers releasing their fragrance more fully now that the sun has lowered. The beginning days of summer carry a certain tenderness with them. The season hasn't become harsh yet. The grass is still soft and green. The heat still feels welcome instead of oppressive. There is possibility in these evenings, a sense that life is opening outward again. And maybe part of you is opening too. Maybe there is something inside you that has been waiting quietly through colder seasons, waiting for warmth, waiting for light. You do not need to rush that unfolding. Even now the flowers around you bloom at different times. Some are fully open, some are still buds, some are only beginning to push through the soil. And yet all of it belongs together. As you sit beneath the tree, you feel yourself becoming quieter internally, thoughts drifting by more slowly, your breathing becoming softer and easier. Your body remembering what it feels like to simply exist inside a peaceful moment. And for now, allow yourself to remain here beneath the summer sky, surrounded by warm evening air and the gentle sounds of life continuing around you.
Return To The Room And Reflect
SPEAKER_00When you're ready, slowly begin to bring awareness back to the room around you. Notice the surface supporting your body, the temperature of the air against your skin, any sounds nearby.
SPEAKER_01Maybe gently wiggle your fingers or toes.
SPEAKER_00And before we finish here, take a moment to reflect. What part of you is just beginning to emerge right now? The same way summer slowly unfolds.
SPEAKER_01There's no need to force an answer. Just allow the question to rest softly within you. Thank you for spending this time with me today in Breathe and Be. Take good care.
